Who We Are

Tsamama trust is a community trust made up of three villages being Tsabong, Maleshe and Maubelo. It was founded in May 2012 and registered in June 2012.

The trust has a committee (board of trustees) and each of the three villages have an equal representation (4) at the board of trustees. These board members are elected from the general community of the three villages. The term of office for elected board members is three years and they can serve for a maximum of two consecutive terms. Any member of the community from the three villages who is 21 years and above and holds minimum of JC qualifies to be a board member.

The Trust came into a 10 year partnership with Botswana Tourism Organization (BTO) in 2014 to develop and manage the Tsabong Ecotourism Camel Park together. The partnership formed a company called Tsamama Tours. It is a 51/49% partnership with BTO getting the larger share. However, profits are shared 50-50. Tsamama Tours is the one with the mandate of overseeing day to day activities of the park.

Our Mission

As a Trust we want to reach out and do fundraising and canvassing for funds so that we accomplish our dream to fight the high mortality rate of young camels as camels are a rare species in Botswana.

We plan to develop the Camel Park into a tourism enterprise and also develop the Maubelo Farm into a Camel Meat and Diary production business.

Our Mandate

As per the NOTORIAL DEED OF TRUST (constitution) of Tsamama Trust our mandate is to:

  •   Improve the living conditions of residents of the three villages through sustainable management of camels and natural resources that exists within the community.

  •   Protect and monitor the use of camels against misuse, abuse, extinction, or any irreversible damage to their environment.

  •   Develop sustainable projects such as ecotourism, campsites, crafts, cultural exhibitions and arable farming with the aim of deriving income for the beneficiaries.
